Rope to rescue a cow, to carry blue paint, to trip the rich, to sail through the air - rope that must be untied, not cut. Strips of a black tunic, a steel cable and dynamite fuse pull and release, pass each other, entangle. These are traces of lives, of life's work; taut with the daily toil of labour (and love) within the simplest repeated gesture. And through all this winds "...the thread of a hum…” to pull together the pieces of a story.
This video is a response to Michael Ondaatje's In the Skin of a Lion, the novel that inspired Lazaro's Dream, a "wandering hallucination" and audio walk from the Koffler Centre of the Arts and Project Bookmark Canada, conceived and produced by Angela Shackel of Accounts and Records.
